Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me

Time ever Lily shares her life and her own deepest secrets underlining that every single one of us experiences pain and heartbreak We all understand what it’s like to live in the light and in the dark For Lily it’s about making it through to the other side where you love what you see in the mirror and where you embrace yoursel. For the first time ever Lily Collins shares her life and her own deepest secrets underlining that every single one of us experiences pain and heartbreak We all understand what it s like to live in the light and in the dark For Lily it s about making it through to the other side where you love what you see in the mirror and where you embrace yourself just as you are She s learned that all it takes is one person standing up and saying something for everyone else to realize they re not aloneI don t tend to follow Collins or her films but I love reading memoirs and essays so I decided to give this one a go And for the most part it did not disappoint These essays cover a wide range of topics from art tattoos and Hollywood to eating disorders battling with anorexia and bulimia abusive relationships self love and acceptance the connection and closeness between mother daughter relationships the complexity of father daughter relationships and a whole lot But the one thing that stood out most about Unfiltered was how Collins laid her cards on the table and didn t hold back in addressing her past and present I learned a lot about her character through the wisdom she imparted in this book With uotes such as My mom was the one who finally encouraged me to speak with a very dear friend who had been in this same kind of relationship years before We sat for a couple of hours and talked about our shared experiences and at the end he looked at me so powerfully and said When someone shows you who they are believe them With that simple statement originally coined by Maya Angelou it all clicked Forgiving myself is just as important as forgiving others It starts with me In order to accept the love I deserve from someone else I must truly believe that I am worthy of it And I am And I ll never let anyone tell me differently I loved the essay on WE ACCEPT THE LOVE WE THINK WE DESERVE because I d just researched that uote last night and found my favorite post that explains it so wellAnd then this piece about her mom I remember feeling so guilty as a teenager if I had plans on the weekend because I didn t want to leave her alone If I left what would she do She never put that pressure on me it was something I put on myself I think this dynamic is common in mother daughter relationships as complex and close as ours I felt this innate sense of responsibility to protect her from loneliness much like her instincts to protect me This resonated so strongly with me They are the proof that sharing our stories is key It doesn t matter where we re from what we look like how old we are or who we love we all deserve to talk and connect We all deserve to feel part of something greater Because we are But with all that I loved the swiftness of this book made it difficult to fully connect with the author Since a lot felt brushed over and rushed we didn t fully get to dive into Collins s thoughts and feelings There were only handful of essays where I actually felt something like when she talked about her eating disorders accepting herself and coming of age Her intellect charm and heart felt finally palpable and there But then towards the end it would once again feel so hurried that I d loose the emotional bond created in that moment It reminded me a lot of Alexandra Elle s poetry collection Words from a WandererHowever on a positive note I was appreciative of the amount of photographs scattered throughout the book 355 stars Note I m an Affiliate If you re interested in buying Unfiltered just click on the image below to go through my link I ll make a small commission Support creators you love Buy a Coffee for nat bookspoils with Ko ficombookspoils This review and can be found on my blog

READ Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me

F just as you are She's learned that all it takes is one person standing up and saying something for everyone else to realize they’re not aloneBy turns hilarious and heartbreaking Lily’s honest voice will inspire you to be who you are and say what you feel It’s time to claim your voice It’s time to live your life unfiltere. BLOG REVIEW I guess I ll start this review off by saying Unfiltered went straight on the favourites shelfYep I loved itI ve always admired Lily Collins always loved her moviesacting abilities so when I saw that she was coming out with a book I1 freaked out2 knew there was no chance I wouldn t be buying it3 had to patiently or not so patiently wait for it to come outThis collection of essays really was something special You know when you re reading a book and you can literally feel how important it is in the moment and is going to be to you in the future That s how I felt with this Only bookworms which you probably are if you re reading this would understand how every once in a while if you have the right book the turn of each new page signifies a new beginning Changing your life in different ways no matter how small with every word readI know I m personally going to re read this book over and over again I don t even know how many times a year to keep me grounded and remind me of the important things in life I even want to re read it already and I just put it down Lily Collins really knows how to express herself she is such a fantastic writerIt didn t feel like some random celebrity wanted to write a book just for the status of having written a book no You can 10000% tell how much this book means to Lily and how much effort she put into making it the best she possibly couldOne of the things I appreciated the most about this was how raw and honest Lily was about everything that she went through It was just so interesting and in a way comforting to see that celebrities really are just like usAlmost every issue that was discussed throughout the book I have encountered except the relationship issues because well I ve never had one And I m okay with that Anyway specifically one topic that was thoroughly talked about I related to so so much It was crazy to see the similarities between both of our issues and how it effects individuals in certain waysOne chapter that also stood out to me was the cooking chapter it really inspired me and made me want to try harder with the foods I make Also to try out baking for my family and friends which I ve always enjoyed but never really made time to do oftenI also really loved the chapter explaining all Lily s tattoos and her deeper meanings behind each oneI think you can probably tell from this review that I suggest this book to each and every one of you Whether you re a fan of Lily or not because you really don t have to beHonestly I think this book is less focused on being about Lily s life and focused on her sharing her stories in order to inspire and encourage others to both do the same and get the most they possibly can out of their own livesI have a vision of reading this collection of essays until the end of time and maybe even annotatinghighlighting as I go which scares me so much but you ve gotta remember you own your books so make them yours allow them to be a reflection of you

35 stars There is much I feel was left unsaid I really wanted her to discuss her experience filming City of Bones but this was a lovely memoir all in all that I'm sure many young girls and boys why not will appreciate Lily's candor is heart warming and it may seem strange for me to say it was a ''lovely'' memoir since the actress does discuss her eating disorders and abusive relationships but there is just so much love coming from her word
